BREAKING: Promotions on Your Facebook Page are Now Easier to Administer!
Facebook is at it again - changing things on us left and right. But this time around it looks like the change they’ve made may be for the better. Your business’ Facebook page can now administer a promotion straight through the Timeline! Here is a breakdown of the major things that you can and can’t do with Facebook’s new Page Promotions terms.
1. Host a promotion on your business’ Facebook Page Timeline through a page post!
There is no longer the need to use a third party application to host your promotion, contest, or sweepstakes. All it takes to announce and administer a promotion is a post on your Page. Facebook has made it quick and easy to start promotions!
2. Collect entries to a promotion via:
a) posts on your business Page Timeline
b) comments / likes on a page post
Forget the days of needing to use a separate form to collect entrants to your promotions…everything can be facilitated right on your Facebook page. Likes and comments on an individual page post are fair game and so are posts from Facebook users on your Page Timeline.
3. Utilize likes as votes!
Let the photo contest games begin! Your business can now create an album on your Page and hold a competition among photos where the likes counts as votes. “The photo with the most likes, wins!”
4. Collect entries by having a user MESSAGE your page.
This is another way to collect entries and the most private of the ways to administer a promotion under Facebook’s new Pages Terms. When a user messages your page, only you and the user who messaged will be able to see that. This also gives the opportunity for you to message the user back since a Page cannot send a message to an individual user unless that individual users messages the Page first.
1. Use PERSONAL timelines as a way to administer your promotion.
This means that users cannot “share” something on their personal timeline and have it be counted as an entry into your promotion. Facebook uses the following as an example: “share on your Timeline to enter” or “share on your friend’s Timeline to get additional entries.” Both of those statements are not permitted.
2. Use “TAGGING” photos as a means of entry into your promotion.
The tagging feature should only be used for photos that people are actually pictured in. Facebook states: “You must not inaccurately tag content or encourage users to inaccurately tag content (ex: don’t encourage people to tag themselves in photos if they aren’t in the photo).”
3. Run a promotion without Rules and Terms.
You still need to include Terms and Conditions and have Rules for any promotion that you administer on Facebook. The best way to do this could be through “Notes” or hosting on another website and including the link when you announce and post about the promotion.
In conjunction with this announcement, Facebook released Promotion Guidelines which include FAQs and best practices. As always, please keep all Facebook Pages Terms in mind for your business’ Facebook Page Timeline. To read the full announcement from Facebook on their Promotion changes, go here.
